Day 31: Doubles
Today was a good day. On the schedule was an 1100 yard swim, including 8-50 yard intervals, and a
4.5 mile run with hill sprints.
When I woke up I wasn’t thrilled about the idea of jumping in the pool. Even though I had slept well and gotten a solid 8 hours of sleep a chilly morning wasn’t calling me to the pool. But, I went and I’m glad I did. My goal in the pool was to continue to focus on my glide (long stretches with good body rotation) and minimizing my kick. I started off with a 100 yards using the pull buoy just to get warmed up. Then I did another 100 yard warm up without the buoy. From there I went into 50 yard intervals. 50 yards is an ideal distance for keeping up a good pace. Hopefully I’ll be saying that about 100, 150, 200, and so on.
Later in the day I did my 4.5 mile run. I stayed on the treadmill and felt good. No knee pain and I was able to hit an 8:15 per mile mark which is great by me. My goal is a sustained 8-minute mile by June 1st so I’m feeling like I’m on a great track to hit that goal.
